We began the day discussing the usages for their, they're, there, it's, its and are, our. We completed a worksheet and went over it.
We then learned that inferences are using context clues to understand what is happening (For example, we know that the wind is blowing even though we cannot feel it by looking outside and seeing the trees moving)
We read chapters 17-18 in Freak the Mighty and then discussed those chapters.
After watching a sample of a future book review, we went to the computer lab to finish our narrative writing essays and turned them in.

10.26 - Block 6
We began class by watching Mr. Fritz's videocast of a book. We are going to be doing our own review soon. Some are excited, some think it will be boring and others don't want people to hear his or her review.
Then, we did a read alout of A Year Down Yonder. We then learned about inferences and came up with one while reading Freak the Mighty.
We then passed out our vocab quizzes while working on this blog.
We ended class with the P.A.T. time we earned.

10.25 - Block 4
We started the day learning about prepositions. We sung a preposition song to "Yankee Doodle" and then looked for prepositions in the lyrics of "Brian Wilson" by BNL. Most of us didn't really like the song and we were confused.
We read Chapter 16 of Freak the Mighty. Before we read, we made prediction of what was to come with Freak's dad. After we read, we discussed the book as a class and focused on inferences.
Then Mr. Fritz read from A Year Down Yonder.
We then went to the library at the end of class.

10.25 - Block 3
Today, we took the Word Masters challenge. It was difficult! We did poorly (most of us).
We learned about prepositions and prepositional phrases. They are confusing so we are still learning. We did an activity finding prepositions and phrases to BNL's Brian Wilson lyrics. Some loved the song, some never heard it and didn't like it.

10.25 - Block 1
We started off taking our Word Masters challenge. We scored a score of 84. Only one got a perfect score. We then learned about prepositions and prepositional phrases. We learned to always use a comma when you begin a sentence with a prepositional phrase.
We then did an exercise finding the prepositions and prepositional phrases with the song, "Brian Wilson" by BNL. There is still some confusion on how some prepositions are not always prepositions.
We ended the class with a Read Aloud of A Year Down Yonder.

10.23 - Block 7
We started off with our vocabulary quiz. If you studied, it was easy, if you did not it was difficult! During the quiz, Mr. Fritz checked our reading logs and then gave a lecture about filling them out.
Following the quiz, we learned about "dead words" such as was, is, be, being, were and are. We edited five sentences on the SmartBoard using more vivid words.
We then participated in independent reading and finished the class with a Read Aloud of A Year Down Yonder.
